firedrill

its waaaay past midnight, where everyone is almost falling asleep, when the pihak keselamatan oh-so-happily decided to have a fire drill practice. at first we thought it was just the alarm going off for no good reason (it has been going off for a few times this year) and so we didn't make it a point to change and go down to the designated area to save ourselves from getting burnt.

me and my rummie sat outside, watched as everyone else on our floor and block did the same, looking out at the rest, see what their reactions towards the annoying sound. some even thought of throwing something at it, but of course that would result in something more horrific.

after somewhat seemed like 5 minutes or so, everyone started getting dressed and rushing downwards, and so did we. we were fashionably late, as usual. we were the last ones from my block. hahaha. yes.

so it was just the typical fire drill. we were standing around laughing and talking about our outfits and all before the head of the floors were called up front for some head count or something. just to make sure no one is left behind (but im pretty sure there were many of them who ignored this and stayed inside their rooms quietly. feels soooo like boarding school all over again, not that i went to any. yeah. just a matter of speech).

as usual, being me, my typical self, i ended up taking pics. i forgot to bring down my camera (i didn't even bring down my purse, it it was a real fire, i wouldn't have hands to carry all my stuff). so i started capturing pics of the fire drill practice and all using my phone (that was the only thing i brought down).

cendawan goreng

projek petang semalam : cendawan goreng

balik dari jogging yang tak jogging (berjalan amik angin, pastu tak peluh langsung. so depressing ok?), misi untuk membuat cendawan goreng pon bermula lah. the day before that, i went to billion for some grocery shopping (nak beli air yang sejuk jer), then when i went thru the vegetable section and i came across some mushrooms! :)

cara-cara menggoreng cendawan:

step 1: wash the mushrooms

step 2: celup dalam tepung

 

 step 3: goreng

 

step 4: hidang dan makan! :)

sedap! walaupun rupanya tak begitu lawa, tapi don't judge a book by its cover. its just like my nasi lemak. walaupun rupa mcm oats mak makan pagi-pagi for breakfast, it tasted like good nasi lemak ok? (still not over the nasi lemak issue.pfft!) 

its a bit soggy maybe because of the cooker or the oil or the cendawan itself. they were gigantic mushrooms. so so juicy. 

there are still some left overs though cause we ran out of tepung. hehehe. if they're still good, i might have them for lunch today. make mushroom soup or meggi with cendawan or something. i'll figure that one out later. gotta consult mr.tummy.

marriage

my chinese new year holidays was spent with my family and BFFs.

it feels really good to be home. very relaxing and doing everything and anything that i want, which was basically nothing. i didn't go out that much, though i was itching to do a lil shopping but nothing caught my eye. those things that i want pronto are super expensive.

*sigh*

i've got expensive taste? 

hahaha. 

yes kot.

 

my friends are in the "getting married" mood. a few are preparing for their wedding and engagement, this includes my relatives as well. most of them are thinking about it. the rest (me), well i'm just fantasizing about it. my "wedding of the year" (as-if) will be a while longer. so, i'll just sit back and watch as the rest make theirs work splendidly :) 

we were talking bout how kids our age are starting to tense up on the fact that they're not married still and taking their parents as examples. yeah. our parents got married at an early age. my mum had my sis when she was 22! and i'm 24 this year and still far away from getting married! 

yes. but i'm not complaining. i think i've gotten past that stage where i'd be freaking out when the people around me are getting engaged. i've accepted it and now i'm focusing on my career. maybe i'd be happier this way. plus i have my family :) 

 

shaheera pointed out to me that i looked like i'm married, due to the rings i wear on my finger. i said, yeah. maybe that's one of the reasons why i don't get hit on anymore (haha! for real ok?). she asked why do i do so if i know that would happen? well, lets just say i don't really wanna meet new people? i don't know. 

i'm just happy right now. 

no stress. 

just happy happy. 

and i get to be myself. 

so yeah. the ring helps and it stays there (maybe i'll get a bigger one kan? hehehehehe). 

i'm single but i'm not available?

haha.

the engagement

its been a while since i blogged rite? haha. yes. so be prepared for a few posts today! haha!

so. last weekend was my cousin's engagement.

my cousin in currently in mauritania, working. so this is sort of a long distance engagement thing? yeah. so i came over the day before, since my uncle's place is just 20mins away from here. lend a helping hand or two.

cleaned up the house a bit. mainly i helped my aunt with the hantaran. last minute stuff that needed to be done, like sticking the flower on top, or putting in the candies, or yeah. stuff like that. it ended up till way past midnight. we had to get a good rest cause the next day was gonna be a looooong day.

i woke up the next day to a video call from my sister. pfft! i wanted to sleep in that morning. tapi tak pe. lots to do. i got myself cleaned up and stuffed before heading out to find roses for the tepak sirih. on the eve of chinese new year (13th Feb), where in the world are you gonna find a florist? lucky thing, these people want untung, so they keep their shops open!

and so. i started rushing on the sirih. my aunty showed me what she wanted to do, and i did it for her. i had to finish it quick cause it was almost noon.

when i was about done with that, my family arrived. my mum wasn't feeling so well. cough and cold. fever. the whole package. but since its my cousin's engagement, so its a must must! they left the house at 5am! yet they reached juru at 2pm! gila jem! crazy. myra pon tak mandi lagi. in her pjs. hahaha. busuk!:P

anyways.the rest of the day went by like a blur. almost everyone invited came over to the house. it was packed. they had a small tahlil by the men while the rest of the ladies sat in the available rooms making no space for us to change or even pray.

its a thing for these people. they will come over to your place, say all the hies and how r yous and go camping in you room. yeah. they do that. everywhere!

and so at about 5.30pm we all made our way to UMA, in penang island. everyone went. in separate but full cars. yup. its a grand event.

i met up with my sister there. she came from the hotel near by. since my mum wasn't really feeling well, she decided to stay in a hotel. easier n much more comfortable.

anyways. i learned a few things regarding the mamak wedding/traditions. 

1. they will suap gula to the bride. this i already know. but this time around my aunty switched the gula with chewy sweets. less sweet, easier to take in big spoon fulls. 
2. the guy gives the ring (typically) but the girl gives money in return. i don't really understand this part.
3. those who came supposedly gave money to my aunty during the engagement. this i don't know why either. 
4. apparently, they don't have such things as hantaran but instead the family gives a bedroom set or something as a wedding gift.
5. there's also something regarding the pots and pans. a whole stack of them. being passed down to the girl, for later on when she gets married. supposedly to prepare her days of cooking at her in laws. or something like that. i didn't really grasp the meaning behind that.

there are a few more i think. wasn't really paying that much attention. interesting things you learn from their culture. something to ponder on. yeah.
